Tracking and Tracing
In the German-speaking area we speak of shipment tracking.
Tracking is the determination of the current status. The tracing process takes place ex-post, i.e. afterwards, so that all important situations can be reconstructed. With the shipment tracking, the progress of a delivery can be monitored and reconstructed in the case of non-arrived shipments. In this way, an improvement can be achieved in the long term.
The term tracking and tracing is also used in German, since it not only refers to the delivery of goods, but also monitors the path of raw materials or products through the production chain. In this way, the entire manufacturing process can also be mapped.
