XYZ analysis

This procedure is used in materials management, empirical experience is used to allocate sales and consumption of goods.

The results of bill explosions are quantified on the basis of previous knowledge. In most cases, goods issues are used for XYZ analysis, with the valuation period covering at least one year. X-goods are articles that are consumed very regularly and for which fluctuations rarely occur.

Y-goods show stronger fluctuations, mostly due to seasonal factors or triggered by trends. Z-goods are characterized by completely irregular consumption. XYZ analysis is often referred to as RSI analysis, where R stands for regular, S for seasonal and I for irregular.
