ULD

(Unit Load Device)

Unit load devices are containers and pallets of various sizes used to transport baggage, post and freight in general on aircraft.

These are mostly wide-bodied or narrow-body aircraft. With these modes of transport, larger quantities can easily be combined into larger units. This saves time and money when loading, as fewer units have to be loaded.

Different ULDs can be used for the different aircraft types, as there are always different fuselage sizes and ground dimensions. Each ULD can be identified by its unique ULD number, allowing information on maximum payloads and approved aircraft types to be looked up.
