(Serial Shipping Container Code)
This number is intended as a worldwide valid marking to identify a shipping unit. For example, it can be a container, a pallet or cartons. The NVE is determined using a Global Location Number (GLN), which identifies the manufacturer of the product or the carrier.
A 9-digit GLN number can then be used to create 100 million different NVEs. The shipping units are then marked with a barcode or RFID chip. After a blocking period, a NVE can be reissued, but the period should be generous, for example two years.
